Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail - Montana Visitor Center

The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, follows the Columbia & Missouri rivers through 11 states. The Corps of Discovery , the name given to a group some 33 persons set out May 1804 from the Mid West to find a water route to the Pacific Ocean . On the Pompeys Pillar National Monument near Billings MT there is a rock signature carved by William Clark in July 1805. This is the only physical evidence of this historic journey.It has become a famous Montana attraction.
