ALASKA TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Captain James Cook first explored Anchorage in 1778 followed by the Russians who developed significant interests through Alaska. In 1867 the United States purchased these Russian Territories for $7,200,000.The purchase of the millennium !



Anchorage, a city of some 300,000 is circled by six mountain ranges with stunning adventures close by.Portage Glacier, one of the 60 glaciers within 50 miles of Anchorage, is one of Top Alaskan attractions. In total there are 100,000 glaciers in Alaska !

In 1964 , the largest earthquake ever recorded in North America, 9.2 on the Richter Scale , struck the Anchorage area causing massive damage.

Oil revenues have aided the development of trails & sky resorts. Mount McKinley, at 20,320 ft, is North America's highest peak.For those interested in wonderful scenery, great fishing, ski sports & adventurous pursuits then Alaska is for you!
