Richard D. Conner Construction Law Greensboro NC

 

Richard Conner grew up in Greensboro, where he now lives. He has been practicing law since 1973. The focus of his practice is construction law. Mr. Conner is experienced as an advocate and in the defense of construction claims. His professional practice is concentrated in the areas of construction mediation, arbitration, litigation, project management and contract documents preparation for local government and private industry clients. As a part of his private practice, he served for sixteen years as general counsel to the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA). His dispute resolution experience as a neutral includes extended service as a member of dispute review boards for multi-billion dollar toll roads.


Education

Mr. Conner received his B.A. from Guilford College in 1970. In 1973 he received his J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Mr. Conner received his AAA Panel Training for Complex Case Arbitrators in Charlotte in June 1997 and June 1998. He received his AAA Superior Court Mediator Training in Charlotte in July 1992, with additional AAA Mediation Training in Greensboro in June 1993. He also took the Duke University Private Adjudication Center training program in Winston-Salem in June 1990.


Employment

Between 1973 and 1977, Mr. Conner practiced law with Block Meyland & Lloyd, a private firm in Greensboro. In 1977 he left that firm to start a new firm that eventually merged with and became Turner Enochs & Sparrow. In 1983, he co-founded a law firm called Foster Conner in Greensboro. A Raleigh office was opened later that year. The firm later became known as Foster Conner Robson & Gumbiner, PA . In 1988, Foster Conner Robson & Gumbiner merged with Patton Boggs & Blow, a Washington, DC firm with an interest in expanding into new practice areas. The firm later changed its name to Patton Boggs, LLP . Mr. Conner stayed with the firm as a partner until he left to start Conner Gwyn Schenck PLLC in 1999.


Court Admissions

Mr. Conner has been admitted to the North Carolina State Bar continuously since 1973. He is admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of North Carolina .


Professional Activities & Affiliations

Mr. Conner is a Fellow and member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Construction Lawyers. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the ABA Forum on the Construction Industry, where he has chaired the Steering Committee for Division 4, Construction Management, Design Build and Related Concepts. He is a charter member of the Construction Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association. He is also a member of the Greensboro Bar Association. He is certified as a Superior Court Mediator and as a District Court Arbitrator by the Dispute Resolution Commission of the State of North Carolina. Mr. Conner is on the Large Complex Case Program (LCCP) Panel of Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association. He is also a member of the panel of private judges for the Private Adjudication Center of the Duke University School of Law.
