CAVAN
County Cavan, the ‘lake country’, is famous for its coarse & pike fishing. The River Erne, the Shannon Erne Waterway, Dromore/Annalee system & the upper River Boyne system all contribute to the fantastic boating & sporting facilities of the area.
It has not had a tranquil past. In 1576, the Town was burned to the ground by the O'Reilly. Inspired perhaps by the Franciscan friar who burnt down his friary in 1451!
For the daily Cavan shoppers, Lifeforce Mill, a beautifully restored 19th century corn mill, is where the ‘foodies’ collect their fresh bread each day, hot out of the ovens.
For the tourist Cavan Crystal, the second oldest Irish glassworks, is worth a visit.
The town is well served with Hotel accommodation with the 3 star The Hotel Kilmore (3 star).
