CANADIAN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS : Northwest Territories
Northwest Territories Tourist Attractions
Bison almost became extinct in North America. From a population of 40 million in the early 1800s the species had dwindled to some 1,000 beasts in 1900! Urgent action was needed and in 1922 the Wood Buffalo National Park, Canada's largest park, was established to protect these majestic animals. Located in the Northwest Territories, the action has been successful & now contains the world's largest bison herd . It is a also UNESCO World Heritage Site which illustrates the importance of this North West Territory attraction.
